I love a big, raging Morphe palette as much as the next beauty junkie but sometimes they’re a little overwhelming and I spend more time choosing what shades to use than actually doing my eye makeup. Enter The Mini Palette. I’ve always dabbled in quads but thanks to my recent foray into Natasha Denona via the Mini Retro palette, I’m hooked on a pocket sized palette.

I used to happily spend 45 minutes to an hour on my makeup in my pre baby days but now we’re looking at 10 minutes maximum to frantically transform myself from ‘clearly she’s had four hours sleep’ to ‘maybe she’s had six’. This is where mini palettes are serving me well. They provide a complete, no brainer selection of shades that I don’t need to think about and the teeny size means they tuck away easily in my bathroom for easy access. I just store a fluffy blending brush with them and I’m good to go. So what mini palettes are fuelling this obsession?

After hearing about Natasha Denona eyeshadows for what has felt like an eternity, I finally took the plunge and picked up the Mini Glam and Mini Retro palettes. Both palettes have five shades with multiple finishes. Mini Glam has a shimmery bronze, a matte camel, a shimmery grey-brown, a matte chocolate brown and a metallic cool toned champagne. It’s quite a cool toned palette which is what drew me to it as I don’t own a lot of cool shadows. It has all the shades I need to super quickly create an everyday, neutral eye look when I want a little something but still low key. Mini Retro on the other hand is a little more bling and a little more colour. It contains a light nude duo chrome that reflects blue and green, a green taupe with silver reflects, a matte khaki, a matte warm nude and a shimmery pink with a champagne reflect. Despite this palette being a little more glam, it’s still easy to create a simple look with a swipe of diffused shimmer on the lid or using the khaki in place of liner.

Another mini love of mine is the Nars Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette in Nectar. The shade selection in this palette is much warmer than the other two and we have six shades instead of five. There’s a matte apricot, a matte terracotta brown, a shimmering soft gold, a satin apricot, a satin yellow gold and a shimmering warm copper. Nectar satisfies all my warm, bronze smokey eye desires with the stunning formula I love from Nars.
