If you’re anything like me (which you’re probably not because I love winter and also tomato sauce on my mashed potato), your skin is probably having a hissy fit over winter popping up out of no where. Flaking, gross skin calls for multiple things, the most fun of which being a good hydrating face mask. Here’s a brief summary of the best.
This super thick cream is a lush overnight mask that promises revitalized and nourished skin. Nude’s mask for dry to uber dry skin (not an official skin type) is rich in omegas 6 & 9 to protect against environmental damage and deeply hydrate. The star ingredients however are honey and fig. Honey will assist your skin’s ability to retain moisture whilst softening the skin and fig is rich in vitamins and will brighten dull skin. Get around this pot of goodness if you are flaky dry.
By this point on our skin journey we’ve probably all heard about Miracle Broth. If not, go here for the romantic story. Miracle Broth is the selling point for pretty much every La Mer product but I believe this mask goes beyond that. The hydration this provides is next level and unexpected. The texture is deceiving and doesn’t feel heavy however after wearing this for the prescribed eight minutes, your skin tells a totally different story. Apart from old mate Miracle Broth (who will soften the skin and calm redness), this mask contains another two patented seaweeds. Vitality Ferment is a ‘highly resiliant Elastic Sea Kelp’ that promotes elasticity and Purifying Ferment is made up of vitamin e, lime tea and Glacial Kelp. This guy is an antioxidant powerhouse that will fight free radical damage and signs of stress and fatigue. Which I totally agree with. This mask leaves the skin feeling smooth and plump and looking bright.
If you’re noticing tiny little crinkles around your eyes, nose and top of your cheeks; this is your guy. Moisture Mask is rich in Sodium Hyaluronate (and a patented Aqua Complex, whatever that is) to plump out those crinkles by providing long lasting moisture. Vitamin E will protect against the scummy environment and promote healing. You can use this guy as often as you like, overnight, to re-hydrate and brighten the skin. Hot tip- he can also be used under moisturiser in the morning as a hard core hydration serum. When you use Moisture Mask (or any overnight mask) at night, make sure you leave it for a good 15 minutes before you tissue off the excess.
If my description of Eve Lom’s hydrating ingredients indicated to you that I might have a gripe with the names of patented ingredients, you would be right. It-confuses-the-consumer-and-is-not-necessary-why-make-it-so-hard. On that note, let’s talk about Glam Glow. Packed with ingredients that have ridiculous names, ThirstyMud is a caramel scented delight. Packed full of Dewdration, Hydrapack, GreenEnergy and Teaoxi, this is a dry skin’s dream! I kid, I kid. But for real, those are the names of the main ingredients and dry skin will actually have dreams about this. To break it down, ThirstyMud contains oat to calm the skin, moisturising sugars and acids from apples, raw honey and ginger for radiance and coconut for moisture. Now that wasn’t hard, was it.
To round out this hydration clique, we have the sassy sheet mask. This hydrogel mask contains sodium hyaluronate for long lasting hydration, grapefruit to reduce inflammation and balance the PH of your skin and Ceramide-3 to retain moisture in the skin and promote barrier repair. This mask claims to deliver up to 120 hours of intense hydration. I don’t know about that but I do know its a damn good treat for a dehydrated, tight skin.
